Everything you need to know about Jetboil stoves and fuel, featuring the Jetboil MiniMo. This article series will cover Jetboil stove basics, use at camp and on the trail, efficiency, storage, cleaning, maintenance, where to buy, how to ship fuel, recipes, reviews, stove comparisons, etc.
I've been using my Jetboil MiniMo for a couple of camping & hiking seasons now. I've used it in places like Joshua Tree, CA, Lake Arrowhead, CA, Hearst San Simeon State Park, CA, Yosemite, CA, Angeles National Forest, on the road for work, as well as in the backyard for a quick, easy meal to keep the heat out of the kitchen during the dog days of summer.
Check out my Jetboil MiniMo review to learn what I've found out so far about this handy backpacking stove.
If you're just getting started with the Jetboil MiniMo, or thinking about purchasing one, check out my
basic operations article. There you will find what comes with the MiniMo cook set, how to set it up, repack it, and use it, even with pots and pans that aren't part of stove's package.
In part 2 of my MiniMo series, I go over field operation, including how the stove fares in a windy area, with collected data and efficiency interpretation of such. I also go over how long a fuel canister will last in real world conditions, both for just boiling water for backpacking foods, and actually cooking with the cook set.
Further, in part 2, I talk about cleaning the pot and burner in the field, both when you have a water source nearby, and when you are short on water, with emphasis on leave no trace practices. And finally I go over troubleshooting fuel clogs, and when and when you can't repair a clog, in the field.
For part 3 of my series, I lighten up and have some fun with all the sweet
accessories you can get for your MiniMo stove. Some of these you've probably heard of, and some you haven't!
Cleaning the Jetboil Stove Burner (MiniMo, SuMo, and MicroMo Stoves)
In this step by step article, I go over
cleaning the Jetboil burner at home, after you've completed your outdoor venture. From taking the stove assembly apart to soak, to which cleaning products are safe, to tackling food particles that have migrated inside the burner, I have several cleaning techniques to try.
Jetboil Fuel (JetPower) FAQ
I scour the internet for questions about Jetboil fuel and fuel canisters, then
try to answer a bunch of them. This encompasses fuel composition, to 3rd party stove compatibility, to refilling Jetboil fuel canisters with different fuels, to weights of empty and full canisters, to how to ship canisters, recycle canisters, and store canisters, and expiration dates.
Jetboil MiniMo Stove Fuel Efficiency Studies
This article goes through my
studies on the Jetboil MiniMo stove and cook set's fuel efficiency. I've performed one experiment in the lab that yielded high quality results, and one while camping with less reliable results, but when corrected for confounding conditions, mostly agrees with my primary study. I go over the methods, equipment, calculations, and results in this article.
Simple 3 Ingredient, Gluten Free Soup for the Jetboil MiniMo
Gluten free noodles, water, and a bouillon cube are all that's needed to make a simple, cheap soup for the MiniMo. Add some dehydrated veggies if you like.
