Everything You Need To Know About The Jetboil MiniMo – Accessories

In part 1 and part 2 of this series, Basic Operations, and Field Operation, I covered multiple inquiries from how to use the Jetboil MiniMo, to wind related issues in its use. In this third article on the cook system, I’ll be covering accessories and igniter issues for this unit.

What Accessories Can You Get for the Jetboil MiniMo?

Cozy Replacement

If your cozy has melted from heating your MiniMo pot without any contents in it, or if you simply want to have a different cozy than your camping partner to tell the difference between your MiniMo pots, cozy replacements are readily available and cheap.

The Sunset, Carbon, and Adventure style cozies are available on the Jetboil website.

Looks like the Neon Geo (yellow color) is no longer available but the Blue Plaid is still up on Go Outfitters.

Hanging Attachment

If your cooking area is looking rather dim, concerning a safe or steady place to use your MiniMo stove on the ground, then it’s time to construct a cooking tripod with some stray branches, and hang your stove from it. This might be worth it in snowy, wet, muddy, or uneven terrain. Check out the Jetboil Hanging Kit Attachment, which works with the MiniMo, as well as the MicroMo, SuMo, Zip, and Flash cook systems. 0.12lbs in weight.

1L Tall Spare Cup

Next up on my Jetboil MiniMo accessories list is the 1L Tall Spare Cup. Yup, it’s just an extra pot, lid and cozy, if you’re bringing company on your next backpacking trip, or if you’re like me, and burned the heck out of your original pot, trying to cook a chocolate lava mug cake. Attaches to your MiniMo stove assembly just like the original pot does. However it’s taller and thinner, so you’ll need longer utensils for this one.

MiniMo Handles Replacement

Simple handle replacements, just in case your pot suffers some tragedy that bends one or both of its handles up. Remove one handle at a time, by placing it in its active mode, away from the pot body, then pulling down on its inner terminal until it clears its hole on the pot. You’re basically just defeating the spring memory of the handle. At this point, pull upward to easily release the inner top terminal of the handle, from its corresponding hole on the pot. Reverse these steps with your new handle, and it’s once again ready for action!

Pot Support Attachment Replacement

In order to use your Jetboil MiniMo Stove with pots other than the MiniMo pot, you have to add its pot support attachment to the top of the stove (see my basic operations article). This attachment does come with a new MiniMo stove, but if you are purchasing a used stove, or yours has been otherwise compromised, they are inexpensive to replace. Amazon usually sells them for under $15: Jetboil Pot Support for Jetboil Camping Stoves, Stainless Steel.

Jetboil 1.5L Ceramic Cooking Pot

If you’re cooking for more than just yourself, with your MiniMo stove, this easy clean up, non-stick pot might be your solution. In order for it to work with the MiniMo Stove, you do need the pot support attachment mentioned above. It comes with a lid and folding, insulated handle, and the manufacture claims it can handle food amounts for up to 4 people. 10.8 oz. in weight so give it to your buddy that doesn’t have a stove to carry.

Jetboil Summit Skillet

They’re eating half-hydrated biscuits and gravy, laden with a small hill of salt. You’re eating pancakes. Does that sound like that extra 0.7lbs is worth it? Like the cook pot above, this 8.5 in. diameter pan has a non-stick, PFOA-free ceramic coating for easy clean up. It also comes with its own small spatula that hides under the folded, insulated handle when not in use. I don’t personally own this one, but it’s on my list of Jetboil MiniMo accessories I’m buying for an upcoming Andrew Molera trip.

Fuel Canister Tripod Stand Replacement

Minimize lost meals and scolding hot water in your lap by stabilizing your MiniMo pot and stove with the tripod stand that fits on your fuel canister. Compatible with JetFuel canisters, as well as MSR and other standard sized IsoPro canisters. This tripod comes with the MiniMo when you purchase it new. But it’s nice to know this piece can be replaced if needed.

Crunch It Fuel Canister Recycling Prep Tool

This odd tool gives you the ability to release any residual gas inside a spent JetPower fuel canister, then poke a hole in the canister to signify to your local recycler that it’s ready for recycling. It also works as a bottle opener. Do your part to keep your favorite ecosystems intact and recycle your canisters! It’s only 11 bucks on REI.com.

Jetboil JetGauge Canister Weight Scale

If you’re using a Jetboil fuel canister on the trail, then you can purchase a small, hanging weighing scale that screws to the top of it, that will tell you how much fuel you have left. Just screw it to the top threads of the canister and pick it up by the scale.

The scale indicates your canister’s remaining fuel capacity in percentage points, and can be dialed in to work with the 100g, 230g, and 450g canisters. It will work with other brands of fuel canisters, it just won’t be as accurate, since each has their own initial tare weights.

The JetGuage only weights 3oz. itself so it can be packed on a backpacking trip fairly easy.

The JetPower fuel canisters work in conjunction with the scale, as they publish on their bodies the number of half-cup-of-water boils left as a function of the percentage of fuel left. Half a cup of water is 118mL.

One CR2032 battery, which can be found at most stores that sell batteries, is what powers the scale. Jetboil also sells extra battery covers for this scale.

Is There a Coffee Press for the Jetboil MiniMo?

Yes. Jetboil makes a coffee press that is sized for the MiniMo, which is called the Grande Coffee Press. This will also work with the SuMo and the 1.8L and 1L short spare cups. Store the round component of the press and its detachable stem in the bottom, hard plastic cup that comes with your cooking kit. 1.05oz. in weight, which even the UL crowd may like.

Jetboil MiniMo Lid Replacement

What can be said, other than that it’s a heat resistant, thermoplastic lid that fits your MiniMo or SuMo. Looks like Jetboil only has the black color lid currently. These are handy for sipping hot liquids from the pot. They keep you from burning your lips on the rim of the pot, and provide a little area that the liquid has to run across before it hits your mouth, marginally lowering the temperature, and making hot contents more comfortable to take in.

Is There a Titanium Jetboil MiniMo?

Currently there is not a titanium pot for the MiniMo. The pot is simply anodized aluminum, alloyed with manganese, with other trace metals.

Further, the manufacture explains the coating on their pots:

The Jetboil uses an anodized, FDA approved, hard coat. This means it is still aluminum but through an electro-chemical process it hardens the aluminum and makes it harder than steel so it does not flake off into your food. There are no PFOAs in the anodizing process. Anodizing is not a plating or “surface”, rather, it is a process that forms a layer of aluminum oxide on the aluminum itself. All of our vessels have same hardened coating on them more or less.

The Jetboil POTS do not contain any Nickel. All of our anodized aluminum are made from 3000 series aluminum alloy that does not have any nickel content

Johnson Outdoor’s reply to Amazon question about the pot’s coating.

3000 series aluminum alloy may actually have a trace amount of nickel in it. On average, the nickel content is 0.06% with a range of 0.05 to 0.10% per the material data sheet on the metal at matweb.com.

How To Replace the Igniter on the Jetboil MiniMo Stove

Currently there is no replacement part for the igniter on the Jetboil MiniMo stove.

If your igniter is no longer working, you will likely have to replace the entire stove assembly, or use a match to light the stove. Jetboil does have a limited supply of spare stove assemblies which you can find from time to time, on their webpage dedicated to this particular part. REI garage sales may also be an option, though it’s best to check the igniter on any used stove before buying; that may be why it was returned in the first place.

At one point Jetboil did sell an igniter replacement kit for their older model stoves, and issued instructions on how to replace the igniter, but this particular part, even if it were still available, doesn’t fit inside the new MiniMo stove assembly.

Can the Jetboil MiniMo Igniter Be Repaired?

Currently there are no repair options to fix the MiniMo igniter assembly.

Regarding the older Jetboil stoves, sometimes if the only thing wrong with the piezo igniter was that the ceramic cylinder around the igniter wire was damaged, and the unit was still issuing a spark, but below the burner, then you could wrap a piece of thermal electrical tape around the crack in the ceramic, and the spark would be appropriately dispensed once again, at the burner level. Obviously you’d want that tape to be perfectly clear of the flame though.

But on the new MiniMo stoves, there is no exposed ceramic below the burner and thus no way to fix a crack that issues a stray spark in an inappropriate area on the stove. The igniter’s housing below the burner is plastic.
